Tower 55 Is The Busiest Railroad Crossing In The Southwest. Located In Downtown Ft. Worth, Tower 55 Can See As Many As 50 Train Movements A Day. From Long Coal Trains, To Intermodal Hotshots, To Locals and Light Power Moves, Trains From Both Union Pacific And Burlington Northern Santa Fe Cross Here. Amtraks Texas Eagle Also Stops At The Old Santa Fe Station Just North Of The Tower. The MKT Railroad, Missouri Pacific, Texas and Pacific, Fort Worth and Denver, Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific All Crossed Each Other Here Once In Time. Before The Megamergers Of The 1980s and Mid 1990s Took Place. Tower 55 Was Abandoned In May of 1995, But Still Stands Under A Flood On Concrete, As The Interstate 30, 35 Expansion Continues Overhead.

Dart Lite Rail Is Currently Being Built On ex Santa Fe and Union Pacific (MKT) Tracks. Since Opening In 1996, Ridership Has Skyrocketed. The 1st Route Runs From South Dallas - Union Station - Park Lane. The Southern Half Is ex Santa Fe and The Northern Part Is ex Missouri Kansas Texas, Union Pacific From Mockingbird Ln. - Park Ln, When Completed, The Lite Rail Is Expected To Cover All Of Dallas And The Suburbs, With A Line Being Built To DFW Airport.
